I just realized I haven't done one of these in February and... this might be a long one. I've watched a few things this month, what with all the amazing movies floating around.
THIS WEEK MONTH IN FILM
It Comes at Night - I knew going in that this wasn't your average horror movie, but I wasn't totally sure what I was in for. It Comes at Night is a movie that leaves you with more questions that you had going it, but also makes you sympathize with everyone involved, even the "bad" guys. It was super slow, but also tense at times and I was constantly wondering what exactly caused the world to go this way. I enjoyed this film, but I do wish there had been a bit more to it. (3/5 stars)
Coco - I know I'm calling the hate train, but I didn't absolutely adore this movie (I didn't love Inside Out either, sue me). I thought that the characters were fun, the world building and animation were both incredible, but I did find the whole thing predictable at times. I also became incredibly frustrated with the character almost getting what he needed and being thwarted. The ending was heartwarming and the movie was enjoyable, but it isn't my favorite Pixar flick. (3.5/5 stars)
Don't Breathe - My second horror movie of the month, I expected Don't Breathe to be absolutely terrifying! I had been told it was one of the scariest movies in years and I refused to watch it without my husband home. While it was incredibly tense and is a fantastic film, it's really more of a thriller than a horror movie. I loved that I wasn't sure who the bad guys were until about halfway through and then I still wasn't quite sure how to feel about certain characters' actions. I'll definitely be adding this to my blu ray shelf! (4/5 stars)
The Mountain Between Us - I had seen a trailer for this, but I really didn't know a ton about it except that it was led by two incredible actors. It's probably obvious that a movie about two people stuck on a mountain is a little slow, but I still really enjoyed it. I loved the way the characters depended on each other in their desperation and the ending was my favorite part! Oh, and of course I loved the dog. (3.5/5 stars)
Black Panther - Rating Marvel movies is SO HARD because I love so many of them, but even though I've ranked a few of them 5 stars, there are still some 5 star movies that I love more than others. Black Panther absolutely ranks near the top. I loved T'Challa so much in Civil War! I couldn't wait to learn more of his story and see him become king of Wakanda. I knew I was going to love this, but I didn't realize how much I'd love almost every part of it. The set design, the story, the villain, and Shuri! I cannot wait to see all of these characters again and to own this in 4k! (5/5 stars)
Have you seen either of these? What did you think?
