Fraterfest 2021 TBR

IT'S SPOOKY SEASON!!! I'm so excited for this time of year and one of my favorite annual events (even though I always fail miserably)! Fraterfest is a yearly spooky read-a-thon and you can sign up HERE! Today I'm sharing my (extremely) tentative TBR, which consists entirely of books already on my shelf or Kindle.

This most certainly is not a definitive list since most years I don't even remotely stick to it, but these are some scary, spooky, and gothic books I can't wait to get to! Here's hoping I finish at least one of them.

What spooky book are you looking forward to?
Will you be participating in Fraterfest?

Fraterfest 2020 TBR

IT'S SPOOKY SEASON!!! I'm so excited for this time of year and one of my favorite annual events (even though I always fail miserably)! Fraterfest is a yearly spooky read-a-thon and you can sign up HERE! Today I'm sharing my (extremely) tentative TBR.

This is really more of a list to choose from than a true to read list. Everyone who knows me knows that I have an almost supernatural inability to stick to reading lists. These are almost all books I already own and I can't wait to dig into them!

Retellings Read-a-Thon: Fairy tale scramble

Happy Friday, everyone! Welcome to the first challenge of the read-a-thon! This challenge is a word scramble. There are ten words and each one is the name of a fairy tale character. Not all of them are immediately recognizable Disney names, but they are all from fairytales you probably know! You just might have to dig a little deeper to solve them all! You'll get points whether you only solve a few words or all of them! Fill out this form to send your answers!

Good luck and happy reading!

The Retellings Challenge Read-a-Thon Begins!

Happy Wednesday, everyone! Today is the first day of the Retellings Challenge Read-a-Thon! Grab your closest retelling and settle in for a week of fairy tales, myths, and historical characters! While the retellings you choose to read this week are totally up to you, it's recommended that you choose books that are already on your shelves, e-readers, or in your audiobook libraries since access to books is fairly limited at the moment. In case you've forgotten, here are the details:

  • This read-a-thon will take place from Wednesday, May 13th at 12am (your time zone) through May 20th at 11:59pm.
  • The goal of this read-a-thon is to read as many retellings as you can during the weeklong challenge.
  • You can gain points for the giveaway by signing up, reading books, and participating in challenges!
  • You're encouraged to create a discussion topic for the books you're reading in the Goodreads group so discussion can take place!
  • Challenges will be posted throughout the read-a-thon. Each challenge will gain you points.
  • The final giveaway will be for any kindle ebook or physical book retelling of your choice up to $10.

GET THOSE POINTS!
  • The first way to get a point is to sign up, which you can do by filling out this form if you haven't already!
  • Next, you can gain points for every book you complete! For fairness, longer books get you more points. Snag your points by filling out this form every time you complete a book!
  • Challenges will be posted here and in the Goodreads group throughout the challenge to gain additional points!

Good luck and happy reading!

Fraterfest 2019 TBR

Happy spooky season! I have been waiting for this event all year and it's ALMOST HERE! Fraterfest is hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and it's a creepy read-a-thon that speaks to the horror lover in me!

This year I've been attempting to participate in more read-a-thons and actually try my hardest to make a dent in my TBR lists (although I rarely stick to them). For this event I'd love to read three horror books. Instead of making a three book TBR I'm going to pick several (including one reread) so that I have a bit more wiggle room when it comes time to read.

A Very ARC-ish Read-a-thon Sign-up Post

Here it is, folks! Yet another attempt at a read-a-thon! Sure, maybe I've failed every other one I've attempted, but this one is spread out over an entire month! And it's all about reading ARCs, which I really need to do anyway. I'm specifically going to be trying to get through March and April ARCs, and maybe some from May if I have time.

THE DETAILS

Who: Hosted by Bookshelves & Paperbacks
What: A low-key challenge to read as many ARCs as possible
When: April 1st through April 31st
Where: Twitter #AVAReadathon
Why: To clear all the ARCs from your shelves and maybe win some prizes

MY (TENTATIVE) TBR

If you know me, then you know I never actually stick to TBR lists, but these are the ones I'm trying to get through in April!

You too can clear your shelves in April! Sign up HERE

#HoHoHoRAT Sign-up & possible TBR

Okay, so here's the embarrassing truth: I have signed up for this challenge for the last two years and failed miserable both times. But you know, if at first you don't succeed... Against my better judgment I'm trying this again this year! However, I'm as bad at sticking to TBR lists as I am at read-a-thons, so instead of making a concrete list I'm sharing a bunch of books I -might- read if I can get my hands on them and/or are in the mood! While you're here, please vote in the poll down below! (And maybe also sign-up so we can succeed or fail together!)

These are the books I already have access to.
Of these, which should I read during the read-a-thon?

What book should I read for #HoHoHoRAT?

The Golden Compass
The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
Krampusnacht
Krampus
Klaus
Dead Mountain
Wintersong
The Winter People
Winterspell
Shiver
Winter Rose
Who Goes There? (Inspiration for The Thing)

ARC August Sign-up

So... as you may know, I'm absolutely TERRIBLE at read-a-thons, but I'm going to try to do better and I think this time I will. Why? Because I kind of have to. I was super lucky in getting to go to ALA this year, but I came away with a ton of ARCs I need to read before their release dates. This challenge couldn't have come at a better time!

So what is ARC August? It's a way to read ALL THE ARCs! Past or future ARCs, it doesn't matter! Just read them! Sign ups will open July 1st and close July 31st. Each week in August a linky will go up where you can share your progress. At the end submitted books will be confirmed so you must review them somewhere. If submissions can't be verified you may be disqualified so you have to leave leave something, even if it’s just a sentence or two!

Below is my tentative TBR list! As you may have picked up on if you frequent my blog, I'm a bit of a mood reader, so this list may change, but I'm going to try to stick to it!

Are you participating in ARC August? What are you hoping to read? Let me know in the comments!

Make Me Read It Read-a-thon: Sign Up & Poll

Ely @ Tea & Titles and Val @ The Innocent Smiley will again be hosting the Make Me Read It Read-a-thon! Basically, this read-a-thon allows your friends and audience to vote for what you’ll be reading. This year, the read-a-thon will be from July 9th to the 16th! You can sign up here

What Is This Read-a-thon About?
Look at the books you own, either physical, e-book or ones you've borrowed from the library and pick out a few you really want to read, or feel like you should read. It’s up to you how many you pick, personally I'd pick a few more than you expect to be able to read in a week. Example: if you think you’ll only read two, pick out five books or if you think you can read seven, pick out ten.

Make a list of these books on your blog, or make a video, or a Goodreads shelf or post a picture on Instagram—whatever is easiest for you. Then get friends, other bloggers/booktubers etc. to vote on which books you HAVE to read.

When the readathon comes along, you read the books in the order of most votes. For example, if one book gets 10 votes—you read that first, then the one that got 7 and so on. If there's a tie, then it's your preference. The goal is to read as many as possible.

I don't participate in a lot of read-a-thons ever since realizing that I'm generally terrible at them. But... this one seems super unique and I think it will be a lot of fun! I'm going to commit to reading 2-3 of these and hopefully I'll beat that goal. I'm really excited about letting my bookish friends choose the books I'm going to (attempt to) read for this challenge! Please vote in my poll and let me know what you think I should read!

HoHoHo Read-a-Thon

Last year, HoHoHoRAT became my first ever read-a-thon. I loved every single second of it, although I didn't meet my initial goal. This year I'm super excited to get another chance to try my hand at this Christmas read-a-thon! I think I'll have much better luck this go round (fingers crossed)!

Once again, this read-a-thon is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Bookshelfery. Participants have from November 12th until the 17th to read as many holiday or winter themed books as possible. There will be some super awesome challenges and giveaways also! You can join here!

My "Goals"

You guys know me by now. I'm terrible with following a set list of books! I also had a pretty hard time finding actual Christmas books. I am not a huge fan of contemporary romance and it seems like most Christmas books are really cheesy... If you have any suggestions, please let me know in the comments! In any case, here are nine books I may get to during the read-a-thon.

#Read-o-rama read-a-thon TBR

I just found out about this today, so I guess I'll be almost a full day behind, but I'm hopping on board the read-o-rama train anyway! This is so exciting! I'm dubbing this the summer of read-a-thons!

The goal: Read 7 books

There are goals for each of the six of the seven books: a middle grade novel, a fantasy, a book with blue on the cover, re-read a book, R-A-M-A in the title/author, read an ebook. Here's my list of those six in order:

(note: I can only read Stargirl if it shows up at the library)

Because it's very unlikely I'll read 7 books in 7 days, I'm also including books that I've started but haven't finished, as well as audiobooks. It's okay, you can call me a cheater! ;) I'm leaving my 7th spot open because I'm terrible with TBR lists as it is, so there's really no telling what could happen!

#TBRTakedown read-a-thon wrap up

Yay!! I made it through the #TBRTakedown read-a-thon (see my initial post here)!! This is only the third read-a-thon I've ever participated in and I'm happy to report I was mostly successful. I did cheat a tiny bit by buying one of my books to read during the challenge... but it was on my Goodreads TBR for several months so I'm saying it counts. Here are the books I read for the read-a-thon:

A First book in a series

 An unread sequel

A book from your most recent book haul

As I predicted, I was only able to make it through three books during the read-a-thon. Part of that might be because I got about 1/3 of the way through a different book before getting a serious case of the Mood Reader Curse and switching to something else. Overall, I feel like it was a successful week!

Reviews for these books will be posted later in the month, but I definitely didn't read a bad book during the read-a-thon! I'll definitely be participating again next year!
