Way back in September I did my very first Disney for the Weekend post. The topic was under-appreciated films and I assured you that it was only part one of two. As I promised, I'm back with part two so let's take this time to reminisce about some of the best (but under-loved) Disney movies out there!
Okay, seriously. My brother used to LOVE Tall Tale and I feel like I watched it maybe 10,000 times during my childhood. I may have hated it then because I was forced to watch it, but now I think it's pretty great. I forced my husband to watch it (hehe) and I was giggling and generally loving the Disney magic from start to finish. I also finally realized that Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe at Disney World is named after, well, Pecos Bill from Tall Tale. Duh. This is just such a really cool movie! It introduced me to stories I'd never heard, my favorite being Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox.
How can any under-appreciated list really be complete without Treasure Planet? This is another movie that I'm pretty sure we bought for my brother, but I ended up falling in love with it. I own it now on blu-ray and I've watched it more than a few times as an adult. It wasn't until a few years ago that I actually realized it was based on Treasure Island... I absolutely adore the characters in this movie and the graphics are incredible! Not to mention the amazing music by John Rzeznik.
And here we have yet another movie that I saw because we got it for my brother. Should this just be "movies I love because I have a little brother" day? Regardless, I LOVED this movie! I mean, who could watch this movie and not love it? Have you seen Steven Strait catch on fire? This was a super cool superhero movie when I was 17 and it's a super cool superhero movie now!
How are there people who don't love Dinosaur?? I swear, I am amazed by some of the ratings on IMDB. I mean, really? 6.4 out of 10? This was a visually stunning movie with a touching story and adorable characters! This is another of my favorites that I sprung for on blu-ray and it was totally worth it!
So, WALL-E actually has a pretty good rating overall, especially from critics. However, I've met very few people in real life who actually liked this movie. The reasoning I've heard most often is that there's no dialogue. But who needs dialogue with such a thought-provoking story and such an adorable little robot as the protagonist?! This is definitely one of my favorite Disney movies!
