Tri-Weekly Recap: 8/9 - 8/28

HAPPENINGS OFF THE BLOG Hi, everyone! The last couple of weeks have been a little hectic, but I feel like I'm MAYBE going to be settling in for a bit of quiet now. Two weeks ago I drove up to North Carolina to spend time with my brother and help my mom out a bit while she settled into the routine of caring for him after his accident. It was stressful on its own and constant paranoia of COVID didn't help at all. I've been back home for four days now and all seems to be okay, so I finally feel like I can relax. Since I've been back we've had regular Animal Crossing meetups which has definitely helped both of us, I think. My reading...

Guilty Pleasure Reads

Heyyyy look! My first discussion post since *checks notes* March! Let's do this! I've always liked to think that I don't have guilty pleasure reads, but the last few months have taught me that I absolutely do. It isn't necessarily that I feel embarrassed about reading them, although that is sometimes the case. Most of the time the guilt comes from feeling like I'm somehow wasting time by rereading books that I've already read that I know are objectively not that great. Especially when I could be reading something for review or something newly released that I'm dying to get to.  Not surprisingly, the first thing that comes to mind...

Top Ten Tuesday #280: Loved but not reviewed

Today's Topic:  Top Ten Books I Loved  but Haven't Reviewed Happy Tuesday! I decided to use today's topic to share all the books I've given 4+ stars so far in 2020 but haven't gotten around to reviewing. As everyone is well aware, this year has been a complete mess. I don't know about you guys, but my reviewing has severely suffered and I haven't been able to flail about all the books I've loved. I did get to review a few, but these thirteen were all incredible and haven't received the reviews they deserved. I'll try to get to them soon! Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader...

Weekly Recap: 8/2 - 8/8

HAPPENINGS OFF THE BLOG Hello again after a week of no posts. This has been a hectic week of constant communication with my family as we all get through my brother's injury that I summed up last week. We have many more answers now and, three surgeries later, his leg is back together. He's still in the hospital, but hopefully he'll be able to leave this week. We've been very lucky to have gotten many of the supplies he'll need from friends who had them to loan or donate, but there's still so much to do and it's going to be a process. I'm planning to go be near him soon, which wasn't in my COVID plans, but here we are! He does have...

Weekly Recap: 7/26 - 8/1

HAPPENINGS OFF THE BLOG 2020 blows. As I write this my brother is being prepped for surgery after he fell somewhere between 20 and 35 feet while rock climbing. He landed on his right foot and shattered multiple bones, although we really haven't gotten many answers yet. Hopefully by the time this is read we have news and his surgery was successful. I'm just completely over this year. Other than that, I've had a decent reading week. I binged lots of Love It Or List It and Sugar Rush and took some walks. My dog Bella's allergies also seem to have been magically cured by an injection that didn't work the first time we tried it, so...

Saturday Screen Time #42: Too many to mention

Happy Saturday, everyone! It has been A WHILE since I've done one of these. Before you judge me, keep in mind this is a roundup of everything I've watched since March and we've been in quarantine. So I don't want to hear it. Since there are SO many, I'm only going to talk about the best and worst of the bunch.  RECENTLY IN MOVIES THE BEST Underwater - I really had to think about this one for awhile after I watched it to decide how much I liked it. There's a lot to love here - the characters are trapped underwater, which is my NIGHTMARE. There's also some incredible Lovecraftian aspects, which I wasn't expecting since I went...
